The History of Eaton Senior Programs, Inc.
The West Alameda Community Baptist Church (WACBC) has been providing ministry to the Lakewood Community for almost 50 years. Housed in a small A-frame building, which subsequently burned down, WACBC was home to the first Jefferson County Library, a youth group from Alameda High School, a wellness clinic and a pre-school day care center.

A church and community study in the late 1960’s revealed the greatest need in Lakewood was for affordable senior housing. From 1972 through 1978, the church persevered in pursuit of a housing ministry, despite many setbacks. In 1980, Eaton Terrace Residences (ETR) opened with 162 HUD subsidized apartments, providing affordable congregate housing with a meal program, transportation, and the church re-located within the facility.

Over time, the need for a type of housing, which included daily living services that would allow seniors to remain as independent as possible, became apparent. Thus Eaton Terrace II Assisted Living (ET II), again with church sponsorship, opened in 1988 through financing by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. ET II consists of 66 assisted living apartments, with kitchenettes. The cost of personal care at ET II is covered either by Medicaid funds or Private Pay.

In addition to a wide variety of activities, Eaton Senior Programs, Inc. (ESP) is home to the church, employing a full time pastor who not only conducts services on Sunday, but provides Bible Study, spiritual counseling and even weddings and funerals.

Our Wellspring Senior Foundation (WSF) was formed as the fund raising arm in 1994. The purpose of the Foundation is to help with whatever needs our seniors have that are not covered by another funding source.
